Roy Alan Van Buren moved to Heaven on November 29, 2020 due to complications of Covid-19. He was born February 16, 1947 in Junction City to Earl and Alice (Pilgrim) Van Buren. They moved to Marion when Roy was six months old. He attended Marion schools, graduating from Marion High School in 1965. Roy continued his education at Friends University. He served his country in the Army National Guard and was on active duty during the Vietnam War.
Roy was an aircraft engineer for 40 years, retiring from Beechcraft in 2009. He was united in marriage to Cheryl Lieurance on April 10, 1971 in Wichita. The greatest joy of his life was reading, studying, and teaching the Word of God in many Sunday School classes and Bible study groups over the years. Roy was blessed with the ability to fix, repair, or build almost anything. He spent many hours working with wood, producing furniture and turning bowls on his lathe.
Roy is preceded in death by his parents and nephew, Jesse Branson. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl of Hillsboro; his sisters, Anita Galbraith of Defiance, OH, Jan (Mike) Erpelding of Crete, NE, Khrista (Rick) Branson of Ashland, KS; mother-in-law, Delores Lieurance of Wichita and several nieces and nephews.
His family will gather with friends on Saturday, December 5,,2020, at 11 a.m. at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church, 300 Prairie Pointe. Memorial contributions in Roy's name may be directed to Assemblies of God One Hope, providing Bibles to children around the world in care of Yazel-Megli Funeral Home, 902 E. D Street, Hillsboro.
